MIA Receives Two National Awards
OREANDA-NEWS. Miami International Airport was recognized with two Ace Awards for its communications efforts from public relations industry leader Ragan Communications. MIA won first place in the Integrated Marketing Team and Public Relations Team classifications.
"We are thrilled that our in-house marketing and public relations team has been recognized by Ragan for having some of the most creative and innovative campaigns in the nation," said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. "We put a great deal of effort into communicating effectively with our travelers and our community, and these awards are proof-positive that we are moving in the right direction."
MIA won first place in the Integrated Marketing Team category for campaigns to publicize its FIFA 2014 World Cup promotional program and its mobile app, MIA Airport Official. To highlight that MIA serves more destinations in Brazil than any other U.S. airport, MIA's internal marketing team mounted a campaign while the World Cup was being held in Brazil that crossed multiple communication lines including public relations, advertising, social media and passenger engagement.
The campaign produced more than half a million media impressions. MIA also was recognized for launching its mobile app in November 2014 with a marketing campaign that to date has led to 32,000-plus downloads. Like the World Cup campaign, the app was introduced to passengers across a multitude of channels, with in-terminal digital displays, departure gate videos, a print and online ad campaign, social media outreach and passenger engagement events. The MIA Airport Official app is available at the iPhone and Google Play app stores.
The airport won first place in the Public Relations Team category for its International Women's Day and Flower Day events. To tell the story of the airport's distinction as America's flower gateway - more flowers for florists come through MIA from international locations than any other airport - MIA told the tale in conjunction with International Women's Day. A total of 20,000 fresh-cut flowers were distributed to passengers on that day as well as hosting a press event with a behind-the-scenes tour, social media campaign and in-airport advertising.
Ragan is the second national industry leader this year to recognize MIA for excellence in communications. In November, MIA won two first place awards and three honorable mentions in Airports Council International-North America's annual Marketing and Communications Contest, which received 350 entries in 18 categories from airports throughout North America and Canada.
