OREANDA-NEWS. December 04, 2015. Power management company Eaton today announced that a wide variety of the company’s pumps and motors have been certified to meet the European Union (EU) ATEX directive, which regulates equipment that can be used in explosive atmospheres, such as oil and gas drilling. The EU requires companies to adhere to the directive for all equipment and protective systems intended for use in explosive atmospheres to help keep workers safe in hazardous zones.

Based on extensive third party testing, the ATEX certification indicates that the product meets standardized health and safety requirements, and is not likely to cause an explosion during routine operation. Eaton’s PVM pumps, X20 pumps, Vane pumps, ‘X’ series directional control valves, and Char-Lynn® Gerotor and Geroler® motors are among the range of products now available with the ATEX certification.

“The ATEX certification provides an industry-recognized stamp of approval, simplifying the design process for distributors and integrators, and providing end users peace of mind that workers are protected,” said Sonya Anderson, product manager, Mobile Open Circuit Piston Pumps, Eaton. “Worker safety is paramount, and Eaton is dedicated to developing products that enhance the safety and reliability of machinery, helping customers address the more challenging recovery environments and increased risk in today’s changing oil and gas industry.

Eaton’s ATEX certified pumps and motors are typically used on cranes, winches and drills in the oil and gas industry.
