OREANDA-NEWS. December 03, 2015. Following recent parliamentary election in Portugal, Mr Mario Centeno was appointed Minister of Finance of the Portuguese Republic on November 26th 2015. He also becomes EIB Governor for the Portuguese Republic, succeeding Ms Maria Luis Albuquerque.

Born in Olhio in 1966, he graduated in Economics from ISEG-UTL in 1990 and has two Masters – the first one in Applied Mathematics from ISEG-UTL in 1993 and the second one in Economics from Harvard University, USA, in 1998. He also has a PhD in Economics from Harvard University, finished in 2000.

Mr Centeno was deputy of the Assembly of Republic from October 2015 until his appointment as Minister of Finance. He is also a consultant of Portugal's Central Bank since 2014 and a Professor at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa.

Mr Centeno has also worked as the assistant director of Banco de Portugal Economics’ Department between 2004 and 2013 and directed the Macroeconomics Statistics Development’s work group in the Superior Statistics Council between 2007 and 2013.

He was member of the Economic Policy Committee from the European Commission between 2004 and 2013.
