OREANDA-NEWS. The second Sberbank Group Corporate Governance Conference took place at Sberbank's Central Office with the participation of the Association of Independent Directors (Russia), Institute of Directors (Great Britain) and Center Transparency International - Russia.
Addressing conference participants, Deputy Chairwoman of the Executive Board Bella Zlatkis emphasized the role of corporate governance at Sberbank, achievements in this area in the last years, as well as issues of business ethics.
"Today most companies understand the importance of implementing an effective system of corporate governance. This is especially important for major companies like Sberbank, to help them develop a system for internal management, to control risks, improve transparency, and build trust with clients and shareholders. For the Sberbank team it is also especially important to conform to ethical standards. This is a part of our corporate culture, which is clearly outlined in the Sberbank Group Code of Ethics that was approved at the end of October by the Bank's Advisory Board. The Code outlines the most important rules and principles for our business: Honest fulfillment of ones work, respectful relations with clients and colleagues, strict adherence to safety, intolerance of corruption," says Bella Zlatkis.
The conference was attended by members of the Supervisory Board and Executive Board, directors of departments, and directors of subsidiaries of the Sberbank Group, and representatives of the Bank of Russia. The program moderators were Roger Barker, Head of Corporate Governance at the Institute of Directors (UK), and Oleg Tsvetkov - Managing Director - Head of Corporate Secretary Service, Sberbank. Conference speakers included leading Russian and foreign experts in the field of corporate governance, as well as Sberbank representatives.
