Schneider Electric India Foundation’s ‘Conserve My Planet’ program kick-starts its ‘Green Championship 2015’- Kolkata
‘Conserve My Planet’ is an educational program by Schneider Electric India Foundation conceptualized to address the crucial energy crisis. This year the program covers 10 cities within India (Delhi, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Pune, Vadodra, Goa, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad) and is aimed at students from 6th and 7thstandard. All participating schools are diligently selected for the program and stand together as a proud community called the Green Republic, and all the selected students of the Green Republic are termed Green Ambassadors. After eight successful years of the program, SEIF today has more than 25,000 trained Green Ambassadors from more than 300 schools across major cities in India.
Present during the inter-school competition as the Chief Guest, Mr. Anurag Gag, Vice-President Solar BU, and Schneider Electric India said: “Conserve my planet programme by Schneider Electric India Foundation is a unique initiative where Schneider Electric team monitors the Electricity Bills of Schools and the Households. Students develop working models and get an opportunity to showcase them. This program provides children a great platform to display their skills, hence making it a unique initiative. Through this initiative we not only seek to spread awareness amongst students but we also aim to reach out to the parents and teachers about the need of energy conservation.”
During the competition, the chosen team from each school displayed their working model based on a concept given to them by the SE team, a week before the challenge. Out of these 10 teams, five were chosen for the final round wherein the students further explained their work through an in-depth presentation. This was followed by the announcement of ‘Green Champion 2015’ for Bangalore.
Green Ambassadors are trained to undertake energy audits, evaluate energy consumption at homes, and conduct green certification of schools while building energy-conscious communities around them. They receive industry exposure and contribute to hands-on projects, while participating in numerous contests and team activities such as presentations, group discussions and preparation of energy audit reports of their campuses via interactive classroom sessions and unique outdoor activities.
