Mostotrest has upgraded the driveway of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street and 3rd Nizhnelihoborsky Proezd
OREANDA-NEWS. The reconstructed segment of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street between Priorov Street and Dmitrovskoye Avenue, located in Koptevo and Temiryazevski areas of Moscow's Northern Administrative District, has been opened to traffic. As part of the project to erect a new split-level traffic interchange, commissioned by the Construction Department of the City of Moscow, Mostotrest has built a tunnel under the tram tracks at the intersection of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya and Mikhalkovskaya streets, and upgraded the adjacent streets.
A special feature of the project was the requirement to build a six-lane tunnel in the vicinity of a water reservoir. The Mikhalkovskiye Ponds at the intersection of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya and Pryanishnikovaya streets are located just 20 meters from the tunnel's core. The ponds' water level is several meters higher than the roadway level, which required extensive waterproofing. Steel waterproofing, the most reliable waterproofing method to date, was used in the tunnel. All operating systems of the tunnel, including safety systems, lighting, video surveillance, drainage, ventilation and heating, are fully automated.
As part of the project, Mostotrest has also upgraded the driveway of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street and 3rd Nizhnelihoborsky Proezd, with expansion to six lanes (three in each direction), and the adjacent road network, built side roads for local traffic and public transport, as well as two U-turn exits over the closed part of the tunnel, re-arranged utilities, built three pedestrian subways and installed an automated traffic management system.
To protect the area residents from traffic noise, noise barriers were installed on an approximately 1 km stretch of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street, and soundproof windows were installed in residential buildings located in close proximity to the construction area.
The total length of the reconstructed segment of Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Street is 5.7 km. The segment is part of the Northwest Throughway, which will connect Skolkovskoye and Yaroslavskoye avenues, providing a link between northern and southern Moscow, and relieving the city center.
