OREANDA-NEWS. Opening ceremony of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) student branch takes place on Friday, December 4 from 14-16 at Institute of Technology (Nooruse 1), room 121.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a world-renowned specialized foundation, having encouraged the widespread and publication of the greatest engineering achievements, since 1963. It is considered the world's largest organization of academic professionals, encompassing the whole globe with more than 400,000 members, being affiliated with its different chapters. Its activities include, mainly, training and professional promotion of technicians, students and researchers involved in areas of study such as electrical and electronic engineering, telecommunications, computer engineering, and the like.

Becoming an IEEE student member, among other sorts of membership, is beneficial in many terms, such as the possibility of attending IEEE conferences at reduced costs, or even sometimes, for free. Besides, one will have the opportunity to access the updates from the pioneers in their field of research, since they used to publish their latest accomplishments in the form of IEEE products, such as talk or spectrum, as well as let others learn about them and what they do through the exposure provided via IEEE-related networks. If lucky and brilliant enough, one might also earn grants or scholarships in return for the technological novelties they publish through IEEE.

The University of Tartu has now been officially allowed to establish an IEEE student branch, which is a great opportunity for active student members based in Tartu to take part in various IEEE activities. The Faculty of Science and Technology of University of Tartu is constituted from numerous institutes and laboratories, each of which holds its own student activities and scientific gatherings on a regular basis. Therefore, the Branch, apart from concentrating on holding seminars and conferences, will continue the aforementioned activities in form of IEEE events of different sorts, such as competitions, webinars, talks by invited researchers and discussion sessions.

In order to let the members get to know each other, the Branch staff and its activities, an opening ceremony is going to be held in the Institute of Technology (Nooruse 1), room 121, on Friday, Dec. 04, from 14:00 to 16:00, in which the chair of the IEEE Estonia Section, Prof. Kalle Tammemae, will deliver a speech, along with Assoc.
