OREANDA-NEWS. The current ash dump plays an essential role in the operation of Krasnokamensk CHP, but its service life is coming to an end. According to the analysis, there is free waste storage area left for two years maximum. Therefore, at the end of 2016 a new ash dump will be built in Krasnokamensk.

The project for construction of the new bulk ash dump and reclamation of the old ash dump was prepared by the Engineering Center of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co. It received a favorable conclusion of Glavgosekspertiza, and VNIPIpromtekhnologii also became a winner of the construction project bidding. The facility is designed for a service life of 10 years, with possible extension to 25 years.

The work has already begun. In particular, geodetic survey of the construction site has been carried out and shift camp is being constructed.

It should be noted that at the same time the project of reconstruction of Sredneye tailings dump of Hydrometallurgical Plant of Priargunsky Industrial Mining and Chemical Union (a part of the control loop ARMZ Uranium Holding Co.) is being implemented in Krasnokamensk, also developed by VNIPIpromtekhnologii. The project will result in increase of the useful volume of the tailings dump to 7.5 million cubic meters in compliance with all environmental regulations. For this purpose, the bund wall is being expanded, new impervious screens are being installed, drainage pumping station is under construction, and other works are performed.
