Baltika Breweries releases road safety guidebook
OREANDA-NEWS. Baltika Breweries published road safety guidebook especially for the Automobilist Day that was marked on October 25. This is the part of the company’s efforts to achieve its strategic goal «Zero accidents» on production sites and on the roads.
The activity of Baltika is closely associated with a large volume of shipments, including automobile transportation. The company’s staff consists of almost 3,000 employees driving corporate transport; around 5,000 drivers are our contractors. That is why Baltika is focused on road safety.
The guidebook was prepared by Baltika’s logistics department in cooperation with colleagues from health and safety. Its aim is to raise awareness of Baltiks’s employees as well as our contractors about the fundamental road safety principles. At the same time, the guidebook can appeal for the broader audience than just corporate drivers.
The content of the brochure comprises of the large spectrum of issues starting from general drivers’ requirements to recommendations for passengers. To make it easier to perceive and remember the information in the guidebook is presented as a control list where point-by-point it is described what drivers must or must not do, and recommendations are given.
«Baltika constantly works to eliminate risks of road accidents to save lives and health of our employees and other participants of road traffic, ─ comments Andrey Nazarov, Vice President Customer Supply Chain for the Carlsberg Group’s Eastern Europe. ─ We implement a variety of programmes to improve road safety that already bring some positive results. For nine months 2015, we have managed to decrease the number of road accidents by 11% in comparison with the same period of last year».
In order to increase the safety of automobile transportation, Baltika implements the «Alert Driving» programme. The program consists of an interactive computer course of 20 modules. Each level of the course determines shortcomings in the driver’s training and offers methods to eliminate them, after which the employee has to answer test questions. Since 2014, 1,931 company’s employees have undergone the training or are at the last stage of the programme now.
2,072 employees have participated in the «Defensive Driving» programme, which consists of practical courses taken with an experienced instructor. Worth mentioning, the training is performed by hired instructors as well as in-house certified trainers.
In addition, Baltika conducts obligatory testing for all employees using corporate vehicles. In order to increase personal responsibility, all Baltika vehicles are equipped with special stickers with hotline telephone numbers, which can be used to communicate information on breach of traffic rules by a company employee. Satellite monitoring of company vehicles is performed for the same reason.
Since 2011 Baltika has been implementing the «Be Sober behind the Wheel» social project aimed at persuading drivers to give up driving any vehicles after alcohol consumption. In the course of project implementation, special attention is paid to building awareness on the roads as one of the key elements to improve the driving culture.
