Ms. Stokes, who is expected to assume office in January 2016, will be responsible for the overall management of the operations of the Budget, Personnel, and Management Systems Department; Office of Administrative Services; Office of the General Counsel; Office of Information Systems and Technology; Office of the Secretary; and Operations Services and Financial Management Department. She succeeds Bruce Davis, who is retiring from ADB.
As a senior official in Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Australian Agency for International Development, Ms. Stokes has extensive experience in international relations, development and corporate management, with years of playing a leading role in Australia’s engagement with the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.
She was most recently High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, and has served as Australia's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, and Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. Ms. Stokes also earlier held positions at the Australian Embassy in Yangon and the United Nations Development Programme in New York.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Adelaide, Australia, and a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, it is owned by 67 members—48 from the region. In 2014, ADB assistance totaled \\$22.9 billion, including cofinancing of \\$9.2 billion.
