OREANDA-NEWS. November 20, 2015.  Our NVIDIA SHIELD just won Popular Science’s 2015 “Best of What’s New” award in the entertainment category. It’s the only media streaming device to win an award.

Adding to praise from consumers, gamers and journalists, this latest honor from Popular Science follows its editors’ search among thousands for the year’s top 100 tech innovations. These are breakthrough products and technologies that represent a significant leap in their categories.

Winners of the Best of What’s New awards feature in the much-anticipated December issue of Popular Science. The awards cover 12 categories: Automotive, Aviation, Computing, Engineering, Entertainment, Gadgets, Green, Home, Health and Recreation, Security and Software.

“The Best of What’s New awards honor the innovations that surprise and amaze us — those that challenge our view of what’s possible in the future,” said Cliff Ransom, editor-in-chief of Popular Science. “The award is Popular Science’s top prize, and the 100 winners — chosen from among thousands of nominees — are each a revolution in their respective fields.”

Blazing-Fast Media Console

In praising SHIELD, Popular Science’s editors said “the first 4K streaming set-top box employs the world’s fastest mobile chip, Tegra X1, and gigabit Ethernet to ensure it never hits a speed bump. It also doubles as a gaming console and runs on Android TV — so thousands of movies and games are already available.”

They also said “there’s nothing worse than having your movie marathon rudely interrupted by image shuttering or buffering. That won’t happen with the NVIDIA SHIELD.”

Stand Out from the Crowd

Amid a wave of new streaming devices, SHIELD still offers 3X more performance as well as more features than the 2015 Apple TV. SHIELD is the first smart TV console that can stream 4K content, and lets people enjoy content from top providers like HBO, SHOWTIME, Hulu and Netflix 4K.

SHIELD is also the only way to experience the full range of gaming. Building on NVIDIA’s long history of graphics, SHIELD serves up next-gen Android games, NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud games and PC games with NVIDIA GameStream — right to your big screen TV. And SHIELD has Chromecast already built in — so you can cast entertainment and apps from your Android or iOS phone directly to your TV.
