OREANDA-NEWS. November 19, 2015. Bank of America, in partnership with (RED)®, today launched a nationwide campaign featuring photos of healthy HIV-positive mothers and their HIV-negative children in Zambia. The images, taken by internationally renowned photographer Rankin, illustrate the impact of the bank’s commitment to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa by showing some of the real faces of an AIDS-free generation.

Bank of America’s commitment of \\$10 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS has helped provide women living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa access to antiretroviral medication (ARV), which not only enables them to lead healthy and productive lives, but also prevents the virus from passing to their unborn children. To learn more about the progress that has been made, watch this video featuring Constance (“Connie”) Mudenda and other survivors in Zambia.

“Our goal is to help deliver the first AIDS-free generation in more than 30 years, and the impact of that work is a testament to the power of our partnership with (RED) and the Global Fund,” said Anne Finucane, vice chair at Bank of America. “As we look to World AIDS Day this year, we’re proud to share some of the stories of women and children in Africa who are receiving lifesaving medication. We hope these images inspire more people to join the journey to be one step closer to ending AIDS.”

To help generate awareness of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 and provide an opportunity for consumers to get involved, the photos and stories of the women and children will be posted online at bankofamerica.com/aidsfree. For every visit to the site between now and Dec. 31, Bank of America will donate 30 cents to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The photos will also be featured in an interactive display in Bryant Park in New York from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1.

In 2011, world leaders established a goal for 15 million people to be taking ARVs by the end of 2015. As of March 2015, 15 million people globally were receiving lifesaving treatment, nine months ahead of schedule. Of the 15 million people on ARVs, more than 10 million are living in sub-Saharan Africa.

“We’re thrilled to see these beautiful images of healthy women and children as we continue in the fight against AIDS,” said Deborah Dugan, CEO of (RED). “The images perfectly capture the joy of mothers and their HIV-free babies, underlining the importance of getting more lifesaving medication to those living with HIV. That medicine now costs as little as 30 cents a day, keeping an HIV-positive pregnant woman alive and healthy, and preventing the virus from being passed to her baby. As World AIDS Day approaches, we encourage everyone, everywhere to join in the fight to deliver an AIDS-free generation."
