Konica Minolta Recognized by CDP for Climate Change Transparency for Three Consecutive Years
OREANDA-NEWS. November 13, 2015. Konica Minolta, Inc. (Konica Minolta) has been identified as a Japan leader for the quality of climate change-related information that it disclosed to investors and the global marketplace through CDP, the international not-for-profit organization for sustainable economies. Konica Minolta is therefore awarded a position on the Japan 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for three years in a row. The news comes two weeks ahead of COP21, the U.N. climate change conference, when national leaders meet to agree a global deal to reduce carbon emissions and limit temperature warming.
Konica Minolta has earned its position on the index by disclosing high quality carbon emissions and energy data through CDP’s climate change program. The reported data has been independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology and marked out of 100. Those organizations graded within the top 10% of responding companies the CDLI. Konica Minolta has scored 100. From 500 major Japanese corporations, 25 companies including Konica Minolta are listed on the CDLI.
At the request of 822 investors who represent US\\$95 trillion in assets, thousands of companies submit annual climate disclosures to CDP. Top scores indicate a high level of transparency in the disclosure of climate change-related information, providing investors with a level of comfort to assess corporate accountability and preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.
In Eco Vision 2050, its set of long-term environmental goals, Konica Minolta aims reducing CO2 emissions throughout the product lifecycle by 80% by 2050, compared to fiscal 2005 levels. The reduction targets were set by using scientific bases including the IPCC’s (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) estimates, among others.
The company’s Medium-Term Environmental Plan 2016 through fiscal 2016 is closely coupled with its business plan so that lessening environmental impact will drive growth of the company. While its businesses continue to become larger, Konica Minolta works to reduce carbon emissions throughout product lifecycle by 40% in fiscal 2016 (compared to fiscal 2005 levels). Steady progress of the plan has been made through various initiatives globally.
Activities to reduce environmental impact has expanded beyond the Konica Minolta Group. The company has been sharing the diverse environmental technology and know-how it has cultivated over many years with customers and suppliers and collaboratively working to curb carbon emissions in society as a whole. In fiscal 2014, Konica Minolta started green Supplier Initiative to assess energy conservation and hold consultations at selected suppliers with no financial ties, as well as to help them develop environmental plans on mid to long-term basis. In addition, at trade shows and seminar events, Konica Minolta has shared with customers its environmental management approaches and case studies to support them solve their challenges in reducing environmental impact.
