OREANDA-NEWS. November 11, 2015. Doosan Corporation, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and Doosan Infracore received certifications for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) at the International Conference and Certification Ceremony for the Dow Jones Sustainability Management Indices 2015, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seoul.

Established in 1999, the DJSI is a set of performance indices jointly developed by U.S.-based S&P Dow Jones Indices and Swiss-based investment specialist RobecoSAM. It is the global standard against which the sustainability of companies is assessed based on their financial, economic, environmental and social performance.

The largest 2,500 listed companies by float-adjusted market capitalization are assessed on a wide range of dimensions, including corporate governance, ethical management and human capital development. Only the top 25 percent of the companies on the assessment list are eligible for inclusion in the DJSI. The result of the assessment and inclusion in the DJSI are used as an important indicator of sustainability and socially responsible investment (SRI).

The three Doosan affiliates were among the top-ranked global companies in terms of the work and life balance of employees, human rights and human capital development dimensions. Doosan Corporation, which has been included in the DJSI for two consecutive years, scored high in innovation management, labor practice and human rights. Compared to the previous year, the most improvements were achieved in the categories of product responsibility, supply chain management and operational eco-efficiency. In the convergence industry category, Doosan Corporation posted the highest scores in occupational health and safety.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction received high scores in the overall assessment on par with other world-class companies in the same industry, and retained first place in the machinery and electric engineering industry in Korea. By category, the company scored high on a wide range of areas, including human rights, human capital development, environment, customer management, innovation and community involvement.

Doosan Infracore, which has been included in the DJSI for five consecutive years, retained industry leadership in the human capital development category for the second year; and scored high in operational eco-efficiency, environmental reporting, product responsibility, labor practice and community involvement.

To fulfill their responsibilities to the public, major Doosan affiliates have established the CSR* Committee, chaired by the CEO of each affiliate (the COO in the case of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction), which is designed to set the milestones for the CSR initiatives and checks the process. Based on the Group CSR assessment, the three common initiatives of the Group are: 1) Build the human rights risk management system; 2) Enhance the CSR management system within supply chains; and 3) Increase energy efficiency at business sites—which was established and launched this year as a mid- to long-term goal.
