St. Petersburg plant Nissan stops the production of Teana sedan and it reduces staff
OREANDA-NEWS. In connection with a serious reduction in D-segment in the Russian market (except premium brands), Nissan halts production of sedan Nissan Teana in St. Petersburg. Already produced cars will be sold in Nissan dealerships until the spring of 2016, but after that customers will have access to all kinds of repairs, warranty service and spare parts.
In addition, due to the continued fall of the Russian car market the third consecutive year, Nissan adjusts the volume of production at the plant in St. Petersburg. Since spring of 2016, the company will go from two shifts to one that would entail a reduction of about 500 jobs, which will be held in full compliance with the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. The plant will be able to return to two shifts as the recovery in demand in the market.
"Our Russian production remains a vital component of the plan implementation for the future growth of the company, which relies on crossovers such as the new Qashqai”, - said a senior vice president of manufacturing, supply chain management and procurement in Europe, Colin Lowther. – “Like all brands, we are working in Russia in a very difficult economic environment. Against this background, we decided to regulate the production prospects of a plant in St. Petersburg, which is not reflected on the high standards of the quality of our staff. Russia remains a key strategic market for Nissan, in which we realize our long-term plans to increase localization, expand the geography of production, as well as to strengthen the position of Nissan”.
