OREANDA-NEWS. October 30, 2015. Board of the Bank of Finland has appointed Katja Taipalus, DSocSc (41) Head of the Financial Stability and Statistics Department at the Bank for a five-year term, commencing 15 December 2015. Dr Taipalus assumes her new duties as successor to Kimmo Virolainen, who is moving to Washington to the post of Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Dr Taipalus is transferring to her new position as Head of Department from her current post of Head of the Macroprudential Analysis Division of the Department. Dr Taipalus has been Head of Division since 2012 and has served at the Bank of Finland since 2001.

The Financial Stability and Statistics Department pursues two purposes: safeguarding the stability of the financial markets, and performing statistical functions. In safeguarding stability, the Department prepares the Bank of Finland’s measures for the maintenance and development of a stable, reliable and efficient payment and overall financial system in Finland. The aim is also to work towards the achievement of these same objectives in an international context and particularly within the EU and the euro area.
