OREANDA-NEWS. October 29, 2015. AT&T* adds Nokia (NYSE: NOK) to the Domain 2.0 supplier program to help develop our software-centric network.

The traditional network build model of adding more and more customized hardware is unsustainable in the long run. Network traffic is growing too fast. We decided to take a leadership position in the industry by shifting our network from hardware- to software-based. A software-centric approach is the only way to stay ahead of demand while adding new services for our customers.

This year, we have made great progress in our 2015 goal of virtualizing and controlling 5% of our target network – the first step towards virtualizing 75% in 2020.

“As a global player, Nokia will help us toward our software-centric network goals,” said Susan A. Johnson, senior vice president, AT&T Global Supply Chain. “We’re constantly looking for agile and innovative companies to join our Domain 2.0 supplier program. And Nokia is one of them.”

Our work with telecom vendors, startups and open source communities in the Domain 2.0 vendor ecosystem is evidence that the industry is gaining momentum for the software-centric model.

"Nokia is proud to support AT&T's mission to connect its customers with a best-in-class, software-centric network," said Rajeev Suri, president and CEO of Nokia. "Our innovative companies share a vision of leveraging cloud technologies to transform the network, providing simplicity, speed and scalability today while laying the foundation for the connected world of tomorrow."
