India Hosts BRO Annual Chief Engineers’ Conference
The Director General Border Roads and its 18 Chief Engineers of various Projects will attend this 3-day long Conference to take stock of various ongoing works and to charter future roadmap for the organisation. Various issues of organisational interest especially welfare of employees and officers will be discussed in the forum.
Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh who is also the Chairman Border Roads Development Board (BRDB) will address the conference on 28 October 2015. The conference will also be addressed by the Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh and DGBR Lt Gen RM Mittal.
BRO is playing a yeoman role in meeting the strategic and operational infrastructural requirements of the Army. It also makes a significant contribution to socio-economic development especially of the border areas. BRO is presently undertaking construction of 23958 km of roads and 4124.77 m of bridges, besides maintaining a network of 19498 km of roads 31685 m bridges. It has also made foray into the field of tunnelling to meet the strategic requirements of the armed forces. Construction of the 8.8 km Rohtang Tunnel in the State of Himachal Pradesh is under progress, wherein 4.95 km of the tunnel has already been completed. A 592 m long cable-stayed bridge is under construction on River Ravi at Basohli. This bridge will be the first of its kind in northern India which will enhance connectivity between Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir.
