Eaton Updates Substation Automation Platform
The SMP gateway is engineered to gather data, translate protocols, strengthen cyber-security and provide a substation interface for utility, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, as well as other commercial and industrial applications. The latest software and firmware updates to the SMP substation gateway can help customers reduce hardware costs and maintenance, while providing intuitive access to alarm management and remote substation monitoring.
“Data and analytics have the power to transform businesses and support a smarter grid,” said Eric Lebeau, product manager at Eaton. “Eaton is leveraging more than 20 years of hardware and software development to deliver an industry-leading substation automation solution to monitor and control power. With the newest SMP gateway, customers can take advantage of system intelligence to drive advancements in efficiency, reliability and security.”
Eaton’s periodic upgrades to the SMP gateway provide new functionality and help customers to keep up with evolving standards. The new user interface for the SMP gateway includes an alarm management system, single-line diagram capabilities and efficient commissioning tools to reduce customer costs and extend product capabilities. Now, the SMP gateway can also be used as a substation gateway and human-machine interface (HMI), providing customers with an alternative to PC-based HMI solutions and saving on hardware costs. Eaton’s technology also enables remote access to alarm management and substation monitoring.
