OREANDA-NEWS. October 21, 2015. A lithium-ion battery that is used in Ford’s hybrid vehicles was donated by Ford to help students at the University of Puerto Rico in Carolina in their quest to learn more about green technology.

Lithium-ion batteries provide power to Ford’s lineup of electrified vehicles, including the Focus Electric, Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi, C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi.

The Ford alternative power source will provide green energy training for more than 70 students annually.

“At Ford we are aware that the best way to keep students motivated is by providing innovative material that pushes them to go further," said Nathan Steel, regional manager, Ford Parts and Service, Caribbean and Central America.

Ford Puerto Rico officials spent two days on campus in September, giving presentations to technology students on the battery’s attributes.

Ford Motor Company is strongly focused on sustainability and was at the top of Interbrand’s list of the 50 Best Global Green Brands for 2014. In awarding Ford the top spot, Interbrand noted Ford’s philosophy that sustainability issues should be integrated into the business.

The University of Puerto Rico in Carolina draws the majority of its students from the island’s northeastern region.
