OREANDA-NEWS. Fitch Ratings will host a teleconference today, Friday, Oct. 16 at 11am ET to discuss the agency's downgrade of Brazil to 'BBB-'/Negative Outlook.

Shelly Shetty, Head of Fitch's Latin America Sovereign Group, will provide the rationale for the downgrade and Negative Outlook and discuss key factors to watch for Brazil's rating going forward. The call will be moderated by Tony Stringer, COO of Fitch's Global Sovereign and Supranational Group. Shelly's remarks will be followed by a Q&A session.

Fitch downgraded Brazil to 'BBB-' with a Negative Outlook on Oct. 15. The downgrade reflects the country's rising government debt burden, increased challenges to fiscal consolidation and worsening economic backdrop. The Negative Outlook reflects Fitch's view that economic and fiscal underperformance is likely to persist. In addition, political uncertainty could continue weighing on broader confidence, delay a turnaround in investment and growth, and increase risks for the medium-term fiscal consolidation needed for debt stabilization.
