Gas market regulators, EU countries and stakeholders to discuss European internal gas market
OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2015. European gas market regulators, EU countries and stakeholders meet in Madrid on 14-15 October to discuss gas market strategies as well as the development and implementation of rules and guidelines governing the gas market.
Discussions at the Madrid Forum will focus on the gas supply outlook for the upcoming winter and work under the EU's plan for Energy Union including on gas supply security and the Commission’s LNG and gas storage strategy. Participants at the Forum will also debate how to improve regional cooperation on gas and the harmonisation of gas quality standards across Europe.
At the meeting, the Commission also expects discussion on the progress of the completion of the internal energy market. Debate will centre on the tariffs applied to gas that is traded across borders and rules for allocating new gas transmission capacity.
Furthermore, with key rules and guidelines governing the gas sector starting to apply as of this autumn, ACER – the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators – and ENTSOG – the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas – will also announce a new initiative that will identify and resolve possible challenges in implementing EU-level market rules, based on stakeholders’ experiences across the EU.
