OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2015. Republic of Moldova climbed 9 positions in the international ranking of the Network Readiness Index (NRI-2014), ranking 68th out of 143 countries. Our country has accumulated 4 points out of 6 possible. The data are included in the Global Information Technology Report 2015 released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in collaboration with the European Institute for Business Administration (INSEAD). The study represents the most comprehensive assessment of the development of information and communication technology sector in the world.

According to the Network Readiness index value, the Republic of Moldova exceeds the world average of 3,91. The neighboring countries: Romania and Ukraine rank 63rd and 71st respectively. In the regional context, our country is ahead of some Eastern European countries including Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania. 

The Republic of Moldova results reflect a continuous consolidation of the digital economy, which extends across the economy and social life sectors. Positive trends to improve the value of the NRI Index were recorded in most of the 10 pillars that form the integrated country index. It should be noted that according to the competitiveness level of the telephony and Internet sector, our country along with the most developed countries, was ranked first in the world. Moldova remains one of the countries with the highest Internet access speed and according to the costs of fixed telephony services it ranks in the top 10 countries with high dynamic price reduction for these services.

In the ITU experts view, the ICT sector in Moldova is one of the main promoters of change in the society and business environment and maintains an upward dynamic. The top 10 countries with the highest degree of NRI index is dominated by Scandinavian countries and Singapore that have created receptive and innovative to ICT economies.

The assessment of the Network Readiness Index intends to estimate the ability of states to provide a complex digital environment and a high level of use of information technologies for a sustainable economic development. According to WEF methodology, a state position according to the Network Readiness Index is calculated based on 53 indicators, grouped into 4 sub-indicators: Environment, Training, Use and Impact. The report analyzes the situation of ICT sector in 143 countries of the world, which provides over 98 percent of the Global Gross Domestic Product.
