OREANDA-NEWS. On 2 October photo exhibition "Nuclear fuel - The Art of High-Tech" was opened at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak Technical University, in the frames of opening the exhibition the book “Nuclear Fuel Cycle” was presented.

Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak Technical University, Professor Milo? Oravec welcomed the guests of honour, the representatives of the Slovak nuclear institutions headed by the chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic, Marta ?iakov?. The event was also attended by the trade representative of Russia in Slovakia Yekaterina Belyakova, representatives of the Russian Embassy in Slovakia and the head of Rosatom Central Europe, Vadim Titov.

The book “Nuclear Fuel Cycle” written by a group of authors including Vladim?r Sluge?, Miroslav Bo?ik, Branislav Hatala, Marek Miklo? and Gabriel Farkas, covers all stages of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to spent nuclear fuel. The English-language book also presents the design and operation issues of Russian nuclear fuel for VVER-440 in a detailed manner. The Slovak version of the book was published in 2014 and won the award of the Slovak Literary Fund.

This year the Czech Republic and Slovakia celebrate the 60th anniversary of the peaceful use of nuclear energy, which began with the Intergovernmental Agreement of 23 April 1955 between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. "Slovak and Russian scientists and experts are world leaders in the field of nuclear energy. I would like to thank all those who have long contributed to the development of the nuclear industry in Slovakia, especially the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak Technical University and wish you success "- said Vadim Titov.

Participants of the presentation were also guests at the opening of the unique exhibition "Nuclear fuel - the art of high-tech", organized by ROSATOM Fuel Company "TVEL" in conjunction with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak Technical University.

The main idea of the exhibition is to unite the high technology used in the production of nuclear fuel, and the works of the world's cultural heritage. The objective of the project is not only to present the production cycle, but also to show the special magic of this process, emphasizing creativity as the common foundation of art and high technology. The objects of the photographers were the samples of products, production processes, equipment and technology of the fuel company TVEL.
 
The authors compared the production of nuclear fuel with the most famous works of fine art, sculpture, architecture and folk art, including the stained glass windows of the Milan Cathedral mosaics of ancient Greece, the pyramid of the Louvre in Paris, the sketches of Leonardo da Vinci, a Russian matryoshka doll and other works.
 
The exhibition is located at the Institute of Nuclear and Physical Engineering of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Slovak Technical University and it will remain open until 20 October 2015.
