OREANDA-NEWS. October 12, 2015. As previously announced, the preparation is underway for shipment of nuclear waste from the Cherbourg harbor (La Manche, France) to Australia on behalf of ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation).

 The shipment will include two dedicated transport casks that contain intermediate and low-level waste. These casks will be loaded onboard the specialized transport vessel “BBC Shanga?,” owned by the German company BBC Chartering. 

 This shipment meets all current national and international regulations concerning nuclear safety. The transport casks are in compliance with International Atomic Energy Agency standards and are designed to ensure the protection of people and the environment under all circumstances.

 The company and the ship meet all the regulatory requirements in terms of safety and security standards.

 Further information will be provided the day of the vessel’s departure.
