OREANDA-NEWS. “I’m at a refinery that has built a reputation for excellence, and I would like to know the key to your success,” said Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union, during his visit at Grupa LOTOS on October 1st.

The meeting focused mainly on the situation of Europe’s refining sector and the related challenges faced by Grupa LOTOS. The key issue discussed during the meeting was energy prices in Europe. The Commissioner was interested to know more about crude oil supplies, the refinery’s operations, its operating costs and profit margins. Mr Šefčovič praised the development programmes carried out successfully by LOTOS despite the challenging environment. Detailed answers to his questions were provided by Paweł Olechnowicz, President of Grupa LOTOS, Marek Sokołowski, Vice-President of Grupa LOTOS, Piotr Przyborowski, President of LOTOS Asfalt and Chief Operating Officer at Grupa LOTOS, and Wojciech Blew, Strategy and Innovation Director.

Komisarz UE

Commissioner Šefčovič stressed that he would like refineries in Europe to be strong and competitive. He also noted that he is working on a global agreement that would level the playing field for refineries across the globe. During his visit, Mr Šefčovič was accompanied by a group of Poles working for the European Commission.

Jowita Twardowska, Communication and CSR Director, Deputy Director General, and Marcin Bodio, Head of the International Relations Office, also participated in the meeting.
