Yatsenyuk: A bill to reduce rent for gas production presses issues of oligarchs and undermines the subsidy system
OREANDA-NEWS. October 08, 2015. The bill which was voted as a basis to lower royalties for gas production lobbies the interests of gas oligarchs and deals a straight blow to low-income citizens who receive subsidies just from extra revenues, which are seized from gas oligarchs and the Ukrgazvydobuvannia state-owned company. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced at a meeting of the interdepartmental working group on the provision of subsidies.
The Head of Government noted that 3.3 million households in Ukraine had already obtained subsidies, "and day after day we can observe a growing number of people who understand that the state does provide subsidies, does compensate for the tariff hikes".
"However, we have just got a serious problem which is that the Parliament voted the bill to lower royalties for gas. Not the one submitted by the Government of Ukraine, but the draft pressing issues of gas tycoons", accentuated Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
He emphasized that under the supported draft law the Parliament offers to reduce the rents for enterprises maintaining the so-called joint activities from 70% to just over 20%: "This “joint activity” is controlled by gas oligarchs of Ukraine exceptionally, serves the shadow energy sector and obtains shadow income".
"We were fighting to achieve at the beginning of the current year taxation of rents for "the joint activities" and raising it up to 70% to remove extra incomes from the pockets of gas tycoons. But today, there have unexpectedly been gathered 228 supporters, from the fifth voting attempt, to pass this bill in the first reading", urged Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
