OREANDA-NEWS. October 06, 2015. One of the trends of the Russian car market in 2015 – it is a reduction of the model ranges and focus on the sales of the automakers of the most popular models.

According to the "AUTOSTAT", for 8 months of 2015 in Russia there were sold 986,000 cars. Moreover, almost 50% of sales (492 thousand units) are only among 15 car models, 13 of which are "low-cost" that is their average price does not exceed 600 thousand rubles. On the whole, it is sold officially more than 360 models from 49 vehicle manufacturers in the Russian market.

The top-15 of best-selling cars includes two models that can be attributed to the average price category. This is Toyota Camry (10th place) and Toyota RAV4 (11th place).

The most popular "low-cost" car is still LADA Granta, sales of which over 8 months were 81,748 vehicles. In second place - Hyundai Solaris (74,534 units) and the third place is occupied by its co-platform car KIA Rio (60628 units). These three models are noticeably broke away from the pursuers, and together they occupy more than 20% of the Russian market.

Among other popular models it can be identified just six ones with roughly the same amount of sales - from 24 to 27 thousand units. They are Renault Logan and Duster, Volkswagen Polo, as well as the LADA Largus, Kalina and 4x4.

According to the director of the agency "AUTOSTAT", Sergey Tselikov, during 2015 it was formed a trend to reduce model ranges. "So, if last year in the Russian market it was officially sold 388 models, but this year - only 366. And the number of models is on sale now on leftovers. Manufacturers are focusing on the most popular models. This is confirmed by statistics. If 50% of the market currently accounts for only 15 models then in the last year a half of the market was provided by 21 models", - said Mr. Tselikov. 

Specialists of "AUTOSTAT" conducted a study of consumer preferences in the budget segment and they found that the main criterion for the decision of buying a new car is the price. Moreover, with the onset of the crisis the importance of this factor has increased. Most potential buyers are ready to change the brand and model, as long as the price offer was the most advantageous.
