ATOMPROEKT presents project technologies at Lappeenranta University of Technology
OREANDA-NEWS. October 05, 2015. Evgeny Obraztsov, the director of the R&D laboratory at ATOMPROEKT, delivered a lecture on the development of Russian technologies for designing nuclear power facilities for the students of Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland).
"Finland has been familiar with Russian technologies for a long time. The Loviisa NPP built by Rosatom in the 1970s-1980s has been in operation for over 30 years, and, according to experts of the IAEA, is still one of the most reliable and safest NPPs in the world. To maintain the competitiveness of Russian technologies in modern conditions ATOMPROEKT specialists pay particular attention to the implementation and use of innovative technologies, in particular, to the development of modelling and design technologies," said Evgeny Obraztsov.
Evgeny Obraztsov presented a report “Innovative Technologies in Nuclear Modelling and Designing”. He emphasized that ATOMPROEKT had achieved significant results in the feasibility study of technical solutions and safety of designed nuclear facilities due to the creation of the complex simulation suite "Virtual Power Unit of NPP" and the use of supercomputer technologies.
The ATOMPROEKT representative also noted special attention paid by Rosatom in its international activities to sharing best practices and technologies, as well as to cooperation in education and training of specialists in the field of atomic energy. Mr. Obraztsov stressed that this trend is particularly important for Finland, where a new nuclear power plant Hanhikivi-1 of Russian design is to be constructed.
Both the students and the University Administration expressed interest in sharing best practices in the field of nuclear technologies and organization of similar lectures in the future. After the lecture LUT professors showed the University research laboratory of the University to the Russian lecturer.
ATOMPROEKT being part of State Corporation Rosatom is a chief designer of Hanhikivi-1 NPP in Finland. In October 2014, Rusatom Overseas, a general supplier of Hanhikivi-1 NPP, and ATOMPROEKT signed a contract for the development of a complete design package for Hanhikivi NPP (VVER-1200). The Saint-Petersburg institute will develop all the design documents that will allow the project owner – Fennovoima to obtain a license for the power unit construction.
