OREANDA-NEWS. October 02, 2015. Nestle Waters is helping lead efforts with local communities in California to reduce the number of plastic bottles and other litter that ends up in state waterways.

The company has established partnerships with local grassroots organisations that are helping to raise public appreciation for waterways and awareness that littering has serious negative effects on rivers, streams and, ultimately, the sea.

For example, Nestle Waters’ Arrowhead Brand 100% Mountain Spring is collaborating with Inland Empire Waterkeeper on a multi-year watershed improvement project called Crest to Coast.

This project helps link communities to the river through direct action – Nestle Waters volunteers participating in clean-up days have already removed over 7,000 kg of debris from the Santa Ana River in Southern California and its tributaries. A clean-up day at the mouth of the river, on Huntington Beach, showed how debris can reach the ocean.

Watershed restoration projects are just one part of Nestlу Waters’ approach to responsible water stewardship in California, where we are taking five actions to conserve water in our manufacturing operations across the state to save 144 million gallons per year.

Nestle global commitments on water stewardship form part of the company’s way of doing business, Creating Shared Value – an approach based on respect for people, cultures and the natural environment.
