KLM accepts surf gear as suitcase
OREANDA-NEWS. October 01, 2015. On intercontinental flights, travellers can now bring their surf gear for free. In addition to one piece of free hand baggage and an accessory, they can also take at least 1 piece of check-in baggage at no additional charge. One piece of this standard allowance can be used to check in surf gear. On European flights, checking in surf gear is possible against a small fee – the same fee that applies to adding an extra piece of baggage.
Bringing surf gear on European flights can best be arranged online. The online fee for an extra piece – suitcase or surf bag - is EUR 40 for a return flight. This means a discount on the airport price of EUR 60.
The new offer applies for surf, kitesurf and windsurf equipment, if packed in one bag with a maximum length of 300 cm / 118 inch and max weight of 23 kg / 50.5 lbs for an Economy Class ticket. For Busines Class travellers te max. weight is 32 kg / 70.5 lbs per piece.
To be sure there will be enough space in the hold, it is necessary to reserve for transportation at least 48 hours before departure. Reserving is not necessary if the board is smaller than 107 cm / 42 inch.
With this advantage for surfers, KLM hopes to offer an attractive solution to those who would like to travel with their surf gear.
