Presentation of the book "Resource Base of the Nuclear Industry" held at ARMZ office
OREANDA-NEWS. September 29, 2015. Presentation of the book "Resource Base of the Nuclear Industry. Milestones, Persons, Achievements" was held at ARMZ office. Publication of the book was timed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the nuclear industry. The authors have described the development path of the nuclear industry in our country. Special attention is paid to the stories about patriotic workers, who have spared no effort to build mining and processing plants meeting the tightest deadlines, developed and implemented unique uranium and rare metals extraction technologies, and formed the uranium resource base.
The book contains material published in various monographs, specialized journals, newspapers and other media. The publication widely relies on memories of veterans of the industry.
The publication was contributed by such well-known veterans of mineral mining sector of the nuclear industry as A.S. Babkin, Yu.S. Borozdin, V.I. Vetrov, V.V. Kunichenko, G.M. Isakov, G.V. Novokshonov, V.I. Razumno, A.N. Sopin.
The book presents the history of creation and development of mineral mining sector of the nuclear industry in the Soviet Union and in the today’s Russia, giving an account of activities of the enterprises subordinate to the First Chief Directorate Ministry of Medium Machine Building of USSR and Atomredmetzoloto JSC, constituting the mining arm of Rosatom.
The book has described the career of the leading public figures, organizers and managers of the nuclear industry and its mineral sector. The work of many professionals, industry pioneers, heads of enterprises and departments, workers, scientists, engineers, builders and officials is highlighted, whose selfless work in the first hard years after the end of the World War II and afterwards made an invaluable contribution to the creation of nuclear industry and increase of defense capability of the country.
The book marked the achievements of Soviet and Russian nuclear scientists, their valiant work on the creation of the largest uranium mining industry complex in the world. The contribution of each of them is our pride and at the same time, the groundwork for further fruitful efforts in the interests of the Russian nuclear industry.
Chairman of the veteran organization of Atomredmetzoloto JSC Nikolai Petrukhin thanked the Director General Vladimir Verkhovtsev, HR Directorate, PR and GR Department for supporting the veterans’ initiative to publish the monograph. In reply, Vladimir Verkhovtsev has pointed out the fact that uranium production for more than 70 years has been a fundamental link in the nuclear fuel cycle, and that the Soviet atomic project started from uranium production. He suggested not to stop the work on the book and publish its second, extended edition.
