OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2015. Fitch Ratings says Emerging Asian sovereign balance sheets are generally stronger than they were in 1996, before the Asian Financial Crisis.

However, some macroeconomic fundamentals look weaker compared with 20 years ago. The region's export performance has weakened more sharply since 2013 than was seen in 1995-1997. Some countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia, are more dependent on commodities today than they were in 1997. And private-sector leverage has risen across the region.
