OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2015.  Members of the Business Council discussed the development of the Northern Sea Route infrastructure and measures ensuring its sustainable economic performance, as well as the potential of Arctic tourism and expansion of environmentally friendly tourism activities in the Arctic. According to participants, the nuclear icebreaker fleet should be a key element in the development of the Northern Sea Route.

"The Business Council is a venue that determines the patterns of the interaction between business, community and government, aimed at the development of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation and related infrastructure. We are naturally interested in the development of the Northern Sea Route infrastructure; this will have a positive impact on implementation of Pavlovskoye project, consisting in the construction of a mining enterprise on Yuzhny Island of Novaya Zemlya. The Northern Sea Route is a key element in the development of the Arctic, which particularly provides access to the Asia-Pacific markets. Right now we are negotiating the supply of lead concentrate from Novaya Zemlya to China," - said Acting Director General of First Ore-Mining Company Igor Semenov.

It should be recalled that on August 14, 2015, First Ore-Mining Company took part in the first meeting of the working group "Development of Industry and Technology" of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic. During the first meeting, the reports from representatives of Arctic regions on the current socio-economic status and industrial potential of the area were heard.

First Ore-Mining Company (a part of the control loop of ARMZ Uranium Holding Co./Atomredmetzoloto JSC) is implementing a project to create the Russia’s northernmost mining complex based on Pavlovskoye silver-lead-zinc deposit (Yuzhny Island of Novaya Zemlya, Arkhangelsk Region). Pavlovskoye deposit is one of the largest polymetallic deposits in the Russian Federation (lead and zinc).

Business Council of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic (hereinafter the State Commission) was established pursuant to Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of 14.03.2015 No. 228 for the purpose of expert examination of matters submitted for consideration by the State Commission and its Office.
