Rolls-Royce supplies eight gensets to power largest steel factory in Bangladesh
“In view of growing domestic demand we are going to increase our cold rolled steel production capacity. In order to ensure a reliable production process based on high efficiency and low lifecycle costs we decided for Rolls-Royce gas engine based efficient gensets to deliver the electrical power for the plant,” said the CEO of Abul Khair group.
Based out of Chittagong in the southeast of Bangladesh the company is going to expand their manufacturing facilities for cold rolled steel sheet coils and coil galvanizing. The electrical power of the on-site power plant with Rolls-Royce engines is required for their captive use to run in synchronisation with the grid. Abul Khair group also has plan to use the exhaust gas for steam production in future.
Matthias Vogel, Head of Power Generation Business at Rolls-Royce Power Systems, added: “We are delighted to supply our medium speed gensets to Abul Khair group and contribute to a stable power supply to their manufacturing. Rolls-Royce has long experience with power plants in Bangladesh and strong service capability in the country. We are looking forward to work together with Abul Khair also in the future.”
Apart from the equipment supply contract, Rolls-Royce and Abul Khair Steel & Power, a sister company of Abul Khair group, also signed a two year operation supervision service agreement including spare parts supply. The engines are scheduled to be commissioned in the first half of 2016.
