Vancouver Airport Authority is working on road improvements to ensure the continued safety of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers
All dates and plans listed below are approximate and weather-dependent. Wherever possible, work will be performed day and night and on the occasional weekend, to complete the projects safely and as quickly as possible. Vehicle traffic will remain open at all times throughout the projects; however there will be changes to traffic patterns. Please follow temporary signage and allow for extra travel time.
Domestic Terminal Level 1 Sidewalk Replacement
We are repaving the sidewalk outside the Domestic Terminal building. To maintain pedestrian access to the terminal, vehicle lanes are reduced to one lane. During construction, all shuttle drop off and pickups have been relocated to the south of the crosswalk by Gateway Valet. Flaggers and curbside operations attendants are onsite during work hours to assist.
Original anticipated project completion date was September 19. Due to rainy weather, project completion is now anticipated for September 30.
Grant McConachie Way Repaving
We are repaving the eastbound lanes on Grant McConachie Way, between Templeton Street and Arthur Laing Bridge and the north end of Russ Baker Way. To accommodate morning rush hour traffic, two lanes will remain open heading north on Russ Baker Way toward the Arthur Laing Bridge on-ramp for the duration of the project. Cyclists will share the car lane through the construction zone. UPDATE: As of September 18, all repaving for eastbound lanes on Grant McConachie Way, between Templeton Street and Arthur Laing Bridge and the north end of Russ Baker Way is complete. Line painting and highway barrier reinstatement will be finalized during non-peak traffic hours.
Project completion is anticipated for September 22.
Miller Road Repaving
Starting September 14, we are repaving Miller Road between Cessna Drive and the main airport terminal. Work will commence on the east end of Miller Road. Construction on Miller Road west of Russ Baker Way will start September 21, 2015. Updates on the different phases and construction impacts will be posted here closer to construction start date.
The week of September 21 – 25 the following roadwork is taking place. Given the high volume of traffic in this area, work will be performed day and night to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible:
- Repaving of Miller Road between Russ Baker Way and the on-ramp for Sea Island Way (toward Highway 99)
- Lane restrictions in effect. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
Drivers are encouraged to take the following alternate routes:
- If traveling from Russ Baker Way toward the Moray Bridge, please use No.3 Road
- Where possible, use Grant McConachie instead of Miller Road
Project completion is anticipated for the third week of November.
