Houston-area employees and their families will lend their time and talents to beautify The Center, a non-profit United Way of Greater Houston agency that serves the needs of persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Over a four-hour period, approximately 250 volunteers will participate in a number of beautification projects such as painting, re-staining picnic tables and landscaping. LyondellBasell volunteers will also host an ice cream social for residents at The Center.
When asked why LyondellBasell chose to partner with The Center, Bob Patel, CEO said: "This is a great opportunity to partner with a local agency of the United Way of Greater Houston to give back to our local community. The beautification of The Center will be a powerful catalyst to inspire employees to participate in our 2016 United Way campaign that begins September 21."
Eva Aguirre, CEO at The Center, echoed Patel's sentiment. "A key cornerstone of The Center's mission is selfless volunteerism, something that LyondellBasell is demonstrating as part of Global Care Day. The improvements LyondellBasell employees are making will be long-lasting and help us ensure that we meet the unique needs of the people we serve and to foster opportunities for The Center community to thrive."
In addition to the 250 LyondellBasell volunteers, more than 100 Accenture volunteers plan to participate in the beautification of The Center. Dan Haas, a managing director in Accenture's chemicals business, said, "This type of teamwork amplifies the impact of LyondellBasell's volunteer efforts during Global Care Day and helps improve the sustainability of our community."
