OREANDA-NEWS. Adventurer Mark Beaumont, will attempt to break another world record at Infiniti’s car showroom in Glasgow, as he looks to ride 450 miles on a static Wattbike over a 24-hour period, all in aid of the STV Children’s Appeal. And a team of SSE’s most adventurous employees will be joining him.

The challenge will take place on Saturday 19 September. Members of the public are being encouraged to take part to help Mark cover 2,400 miles in total over the course of the day – the distance from Glasgow to Cairo, where Mark’s recent Africa Solo expedition started. There will be 4 bikes available to take part and SSE will be sending some of its employees to help Mark reach his target.

Mark Beaumont said: “I am delighted that SSE is getting behind the STV Children’s Appeal by joining my gruelling 24 hour World Record attempt! The team from SSE will be donning their lycra and peddling with me, adding to the group target of pedalling from Glasgow to Africa within a day, as well as helping me set a static bike World Record.
“My own target is 450 miles, so I will need every ounce of encouragement. I have seen over years of working with the STV Children’s Appeal what an incredible difference this fundraising makes, and every penny goes to children living in poverty within Scotland. Pedal fast Team SSE!”

A number of individuals and organisations have already committed to help Mark with the challenge, including St Mirren Football Club, the Braehead Clan ice hockey team and professional golfer, Alyson McKechin. There will be player appearances throughout the day from both clubs and Alyson will be giving golfing advice from 2-5pm on Saturday.

John Stewart, SSE Director of HR, will be joining Mark to help him cover the mammoth distance: “SSE is delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.

“The STV Children’s Appeal is a great charity which really helps children living in poverty so we were happy to make a donation and help out on the day.

“The effort required by Mark to reach his goal of 450 miles will take lots encouragement so we’re looking forward to playing our part.”

Elizabeth Partyka of the STV Children’s Appeal said: “This is set to be a brilliant event at Infiniti Glasgow and we are thrilled Mark is taking on another challenge for the STV Children’s Appeal this year. It’s fantastic to see so many individuals and organisations getting behind the challenge to help raise funds for Scotland’s children and we wish them the best of luck on the day.”
