OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2015. The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a meeting among Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee, Members of the Management Committee and representatives of the Fakel – Gazprom table tennis club (Orenburg).

In the past season Fakel – Gazprom for the third time became a holder of the European Champions League Cup, the most prestigious European tennis trophy as well as a seven-time winner of the Russian Table Tennis Championship. It is an absolute record which has never been achieved by any Russian team before.

“The Fakel – Gazprom table tennis club demonstrates exceptional accomplishments in professional sport. That is why within the Gazprom for Children program we built Europe’s largest Table Tennis Center in Orenburg, where a new generation of athletes is fostered, treading in the steps of professional sports stars,” said Alexey Miller.

Viktor Andreev, senior coach of the club talked about the team’s plans, work of the Table Tennis Center and also thanked Alexey Miller for assistance in promoting table tennis.

The Fakel – Gazprom players presented Alexey Miller with club-branded souvenirs, including a professional table tennis racket and a personalized T-shirt.

Background

The Fakel – Gazprom table tennis club in Orenburg was established on October 20, 2001. Gazprom Dobycha Orenburg, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom is the general sponsor of the club.

Fakel – Gazprom is a holder of the European Super Cup (2012), a winner of the European Champions League (2012, 2013 and 2015), a holder of the European Cup (2010), a seven-time Champion of Russia and a three-time winner of the Russian Cup.

Vladimir Samsonov, team captain, Honored Master of Sports, world No.10 in table tennis, Dmitry Ovcharov, world No.5 and Europe’s No. 1 in table tennis, Alexey Smirnov, leader of the Russian national team, Master of Sports of International Class, Fyodor Kuzmin, Master of Sports of International Class, Denis Ivonin, member of the Russian junior team, Master of Sports, play for the Orenburg club.
