OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2015. The Law no. 167 of July 31, 2015 on the amendment and supplement of the Audiovisual Code of July 27, 2006 developed and promoted by the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova. These amendments define the specific concepts of the digital terrestrial television, such as: multiplex, multiplex provider, and establish the regulatory framework necessary to implement the process of transition and operation of the digital terrestrial television on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

In accordance with the new regulations, the Audiovisual Coordinating Council will be able to organize tenders for the issuance of broadcasting licenses for the use of the digital terrestrial multiplexes. Currently, the positions (slots) of the first multiplex with national coverage of 70% of the population of the country and 65% of the territory of the Republic of Moldova may be exposed to the tenders. The first multiplex has the ability to broadcast up to 15 TV program services.

The digital terrestrial television provides a number of advantages, including: good constant quality of the image throughout the reception zone, more TV programs available for visualisation, stereo sound, HD (high definition) image and the possibility to watch shows with several sound tracks or subtitles in several languages, and well as other additional services.

The Republic of Moldova has committed to make the transition to the digital terrestrial television by signing the Regional Agreement on planning of the digital terrestrial broadcasting service “Geneva 2006”, to which 104 states are party.
