OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2015.  The convergence of media, networks and cloud is no better demonstrated than at Europe’s biggest media technology show IBC.

Now in its 48th year, it will attract over 55,000 attendees between 10-15 September in Amsterdam to experience just how far the industry has changed in how it creates, manages and delivers content.

One of the key themes of IBC2015, where Equinix will be exhibiting in Hall 3, Stand B13, is “Content Everywhere” which requires digital media companies to re-address how they access the kind of on-demand, low-latency, high-bandwidth interconnections that are increasingly important when operating in the media and entertainment ecosystem.

In the UK, the Digital Production Partnership have been a progressive factor in moving the industry away from ‘tape to file’ and recently addressed the issue in their ‘10 Things You Need To Know About Connectivity’ report, concluding with the following advice:

“Stop thinking about making do, and start thinking about how dependence on connectivity will fit into your business model. It’s hard to imagine a business in our industry that isn’t going to need very fast, very secure and very reliable connectivity within the next couple of years.”

The stats on traffic that’s driving this need for a re-think are pretty convincing too. From the consumer perspective Cisco predict that globally, IP video will represent 80 percent of all traffic by 2019 whilst from the business perspective TeleGeography reported a resurgence in network construction and that “international bandwidth grew 44% percent in 2014, to reach 211 Tbps. The 65 Tbps of new capacity deployed in 2014 are comparable to nearly the entire amount of bandwidth in service globally in 2011”.

For business, reliability, security and bandwidth scalability are essential factors and within Equinix we can provide access to 1,000+ network service providers and 500+ cloud service providers, including AWS, Cisco, Google, IBM and Microsoft to help make the right choice for your needs. Indeed today we enable more than 160,000 connections between our customers, making us the world’s leading global interconnection platform.

To bring an example to life I’ll be discussing with Joachim van Collenburg, Product Director of euNetworks Group Limited, how the combination of their media connect infrastructure and the global capabilities of Equinix’s interconnection platform have combined to provide a scalable, cloud-enabled workflow solution for Endemol Shine Nederland.

Come and learn how at the IBC Content Everywhere Technology in Action Theatre, located in Hall 3 at 12.30pm on Monday September 14th.
