Huawei Rotating CEO Guo Ping meets EU Commissioner Carlos Moedas
The two sides exchanged views on R&D, innovation, and project cooperation in 5G. Moedas was also briefed about Huawei's European Research Institute (ERI).
Guo commented, "Huawei's goal of building a Better Connected Europe is aligned with the EU's strategic direction. The Digital Agenda is one of the EU's major plans. We will leverage our advantages in technologies and resources to support Europe's digitization. We will work closely with the EU on key projects such as 5G R&D, 5G standards formulation, network infrastructure construction, spectrum harmonization, and digital service security. We are committed to helping the EU become a leader in the digital era, boost economic growth, and create more jobs."
Currently, Huawei employs more than 9,900 people in Europe, 1,200 of whom are engaged in R&D. Alongside its European partners, Huawei has participated in multiple EU ICT projects. With a focus on researching next-generation network technologies, Huawei's ERI coordinates the work of the company's 18 R&D facilities in eight European countries. Huawei will continue to increase its R&D investment in Europe and enhance cooperation with local partners. It will also work with local industries and academia to create more high-end jobs and help Europe cultivate more communications professionals. As of now, Huawei's Seeds for the Future program has been implemented in 22 European countries, benefiting over 700 exceptional college students from over 80 higher education institutions, and enabling them to receive training on advanced ICT technologies in China.
