Enterprise tank fire shuts Seaway: Update
OREANDA-NEWS. September 02, 2015. All incoming and outgoing lines into Enterprise Products Partners' Jones Creek terminal in Texas — including the Seaway pipeline — were shut following a fire on a roof of a 350,000 bl crude tank at the facility.
The Seaway pipeline system is a major conduit for crude from Cushing, Oklahoma, to Texas refineries.
The fire appears to have been caused by a lightning strike at about 10am ET, an Enterprise spokesman said. The fire was extinguished at 12:52pm ET. The impacted tank was equipped with automated fire suppression systems including foam application capabilities.
Enterprise said the pipelines were closed as a safety precaution and that it is expecting to restart the lines later today.
The Jones Creek terminal is on the Texas Gulf coast near Freeport. It is the delivery point for the 1,300-mile (2,092km) Seaway pipeline system which includes twin lines — one with a capacity of 450,000 b/d and the other with capacity of 400,000 b/d.
