OREANDA-NEWS. Shvabe Holding has created a light guide with unique structure for application in systems, in which powerful laser radiation is used.

Employees of S.I.Vavilov State Optics Institute, Research and technological institute of optical material science, All-Russian Research Centre JSC, a Shvabe Holding's enterprise, have developed an original concept of light guide. The design of new product is based on the innovative technology of optical fibre with hole-assisted light-reflecting shell, e.g. holes of large and small diameter are present in the structure of this new product, which are located non-symmetrically.

"At present single-mode light guides with large core (from 10 to 100 mcm) are extremely demanded in various industry branches in creating powerful laser systems. Our development based on non-alloyed quartz glass with large core using mode discrimination has allowed to obtain steady single-mode conditions for radiation transfer", told Nickolai Rakovich, Shvabe JSC's deputy general director for R&D and innovative development.

In order to evaluate the concept in practice, specialists of S.I.Vavilov State Optics Institute, Research and technological institute of optical material science, All-Russian Research Centre JSC have manufactured and successfully tested experimental specimens of light guides with the core size from 50 to 100 mcm. It is planned to launch the new product into serial production at the end of 2015.
