Lake Charles LNG receives FERC Final Environmental Impact Statement
This represents a key regulatory milestone for the three-train liquefaction project in Louisiana, USA. The US Department of Energy has conditionally granted authorization to a jointly owned subsidiary of BG Group and Energy Transfer to export up to approximately 15 mtpa of LNG from the project to non-Free Trade Agreement nations. FERC authorization for Lake Charles LNG – the last major regulatory hurdle – is expected during the next 90 days. Final investment decision on the project is expected next year.
BG Group has positioned itself to be a leading exporter of LNG from the US and expects to lift cargoes from Sabine Pass from early 2016. BG Group’s 20-year offtake agreement for LNG from Sabine Pass includes 3.5 mtpa from train 1 plus an additional 2 mtpa ramping up across all four trains.
