OREANDA-NEWS. US steel mill shipments rose by 8.1pc to 7.76mn net tons (nt) (6.9mn metric tonnes) in June from the prior month but were sharply lower from a year earlier, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) said today.

Shipments were up from 7.18mn nt shipped in May, AISI said. They fell in June by 6.4pc from 8.3mn nt shipped in June 2014.

In the first half of 2015, shipments fell to 44mn nt, down by 9.8pc from 48.8mn net in the first half of 2014.

Hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip were up by 14pc in June from May, while hot rolled sheet rose by 12pc and cold rolled sheet was up by 9pc.
