SHE Transmission’s got it licked at Carradale Harbour Show
OREANDA-NEWS. Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHE Transmission) has been dogged in its determination to support a popular annual event in Carradale.
The network operator is currently working in the area on the Kintyre-Hunterston project and after supporting the recent Carradale Canter, had offered to lend some barriers to the organisers of the Harbour Day so they could pen off an area in which to hold their dog show.
The ‘Just for Fun’ canine caper is one of the highlights of the day’s events, including classes for Best Dressed (Pirate) Dog, Best Trick and Most Appealing Eyes, and SHE Transmission Project Director Andy Malkin was keen to take the lead: “So many of us working on the Kintyre-Hunterston project live in this beautiful area too, so we’re part of the community and always look forward to opportunities to get involved. The Carradale Harbour Day is loved by locals and visitors alike and when we heard the dog show would benefit from a separate area, we knew we could help by lending them the barriers to make a temporary show arena.”
Alan Milstead from Carradale Harbour Enterprises Ltd, added: “It’s great to have the help and support of the SHE Transmission team. We host several events through the year and having their backing is really appreciated. They’re well known in the area and always keen to get involved with local events and causes. Sadly, none of them won our ‘Owner who looks most like their dog’ category, but there’s always next year.”
The Kintyre-Hunterston Connection is a project to reinforce the 132kV transmission network on Kintyre by providing a new 132kV connection between Carradale Substation and the new Crossaig substation. The 132kV overhead line upgrade between Carradale and Crossaig has been completed with only land reinstatement works continuing and all public road improvements have been carried out with minor road maintenance still ongoing.
The first of the 220kV subsea cables has been laid and is currently being buried for protection purposes. The second cable is scheduled to be laid this month, with cable protection and rock placement taking place in the next couple of months.
