OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2015. The Latin American Section of the American Nuclear Society LAS-ANS held the annual symposium LAS-ANS Symposium 2015, which took place from 13th to 16th July in Santiago, Chile. The event was organized by the Chilean Nuclear Energy Commission and the Catholic University of Chile.

The Symposium consisted of several technical sessions dealing with specific areas of peaceful use of nuclear energy including the impact of nuclear energy addressing climate change issues, global and regional prospects for increasing the share of nuclear power in total electricity generation, nuclear safety issues, human resource training issues, etc.

This year the countries participating in the event named "Building a clean energy future for Latin America: A nuclear perspective", have expressed a high interest in the application of competitive nuclear technology in their regions.

The head of ROSATOM Am?rica Latina Sergey Krivolapov held a presentation about " ROSATOM Global Development and its perspectives in Latin America", dedicated to competitive advantages of Rosatom in an international market and the possibilities of cooperation with State Corporation in the implementation of the national nuclear program in Latin America.

S. Krivolapov noted that the region is a priority for ROSATOM in terms of cooperation development. That is why recently been registered the regional center of Rio de Janeiro, which is intended to intensify cooperation with the partners of the company in Latin America, supporting the ongoing projects and the search for new opportunities for cooperation with Latin American companies.

"ROSATOM is a global company, providing the full range of services from A to Z in the field of nuclear energy. We are ready to develop cooperation with Latin American countries in all directions. Apart from construction of the NPP and objects of infrastructure we have competencies in areas such as nuclear medicine and use of radiation technologies in agriculture, we are ready to offer Latin American partners the technology of water-purification and desalination of sea water", mentioned S. Krivolapov.

He emphasized that ROSATOM guarantees customer-oriented approach, providing the most effective financial decisions according to customer's requirements and the high level of localization. Moreover, the partnership with Rosatom allows the local companies to get experience of cooperation with the Russian nuclear branch and to become partners in implementation of ROSATOM’s projects in other countries of the region, as well as other countries of the world.
