OREANDA-NEWS. August 12, 2015. The Bank of Russia has detected phishing emails bearing unreliable information on the launch of the national payment system Mir.

These messages describe the features of the payment system Mir and offer to fill in the attached customer form to receive a card of the said payment system. The executive code in the attachment allows phishers to download various malicious software to the customer’s computer.

Phishing emails are sent on behalf of large credit institutions. The sender’s email may have signs of belonging to the relevant credit institution. Such emails are characterised by a deliberately large list of advantages of the said payment system, including direct access to crypto-currencies.

The Bank of Russia considers such emails to be a new type of fraud.

The Bank of Russia urges receivers of such phishing emails to avoid opening the attachments and forwarding them, and suggests that credit institutions communicate this information to their customers.

The Bank of Russia advises citizens who receive such emails to inform the customer service of the credit institution on behalf of which they are sent. The Bank of Russia advises credit institutions to communicate such cases to the Centre for monitoring and responding to computer attacks in credit and finance.
