OREANDA-NEWS. As a result of an open tender, SOGAZ Insurance Group together with two other Russian insurance companies has signed an insurance contract with Baltic Shipyard Shipbuilding Ltd. The insurance covers shipbuilding and nuclear risks during construction of Project 22220 LK-60 lead atomic icebreaker (with the vessel building number 05706).

The contract covers risks of loss of the vessel, its disappearance, damage to or loss of its engines, machinery, equipment, materials, devices, and supplies. It also covers shipbuilder liability to third parties. The insurance is provided until the end of 2018, including the period of construction, testing, and transport of the vessel to the place of its delivery to the customer - Atomflot FSUE. The share of SOGAZ in the coinsurance contract is 70 percent.

The insured value of the vessel will increase as the construction progresses. At the final stage it will be RUB 39.6 bn.

LK-60 icebreakers (Project 22220) are Russian nuclear icebreakers of a new type. The engineering design of the atomic vessel was made by Iceberg CDB in 2009. The length of the icebreaker will be 173.3 m, width - 34 m, maximum depth - 15.2 m, and displacement - 33,500 tons.The main purpose of these icebreakers is servicing the Northern Sea Route and carrying out various expeditions to the Arctic. Construction of the lead icebreaker of the series started in 2012.
